“The Hygienist’s Role in Periodontal Therapy”
Amar Katranji, D.D.S., M.S.
Dr. Katranji is a specialist in periodontics with emphasis on dental implants and advanced bone grafting. Born and raised in Michigan, he is a graduate of the University of Michigan School of Dentistry where he is a Member of the Dean’s Faculty in the Department of Periodontics and Oral Medicine. He is a Diplomate of the American Board of Periodontology and currently works in private practice in Southfield and Ann Arbor.
COURSE OBJECTIVES:
- Discuss the role of the hygienist in managing periodontal disease
- Review current trends of treating periodontal disease
- Discuss the use of tests used to predict or manage periodontal disease
- Discuss maintaining teeth vs placing implants

the Dental Office”
Curtis Smith, Pharm. D., B.C.P.S.
Curtis Smith is a Professor of Pharmacy Practice at Ferris State University College of Pharmacy. He received his Bachelor of Science degree in Pharmacy from Ferris State College and his Doctor of Pharmacy degree from the Medical University of South Carolina. After graduation he completed a two-year fellowship in pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics at the University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center. Currently Dr. Smith’s practice is at Sparrow Hospital in Lansing and is primarily focused on trauma/surgical critical care medicine. His specific interests are in trauma, surgery, internal medicine, infectious diseases and pharmacokinetics. He provides advanced pharmacy practice experiences in internal medicine and trauma/surgical critical care to pharmacy students at Ferris State University. Dr. Smith is a Board Certified Pharmacotherapy Specialist (BCPS). He has also taught in the national BCPS preparatory course for many years. Dr. Smith is involved in numerous pharmacy organizations at the local, state and national level.
COURSE OBJECTIVES:
- Differentiate the antiplatelet and newer anticoagulant agents and describe their clinical use
- Recommend appropriate perioperative management of anticoagulants
- List the patients and procedures that require endocarditis prevention
- Describe the Michigan Automated Prescription System
The Seminar will take place at the Red Run Golf Club and Breakfast will be served.
