DESCRIPTION:Michigan Dental Hygienists’ Association  \nIs Proudly Offering: \n“Medical Cannabis and the Dental Patient” \nFriday April 1st 12:00-2:00pm \nVirtual Presentation \nSpeaker: Jennifer Cullen\, RDH\, BSDH\, MPH \n  \n  \nJennifer Cullen\, RDH\, BSDH\, MPH is a Clinical Instructor and Director of the Dental Hygiene Degree Completion program in the Department of Periodontics and Oral Medicine\, Division of Dental Hygiene at the University of Michigan School of Dentistry.  Ms. Cullen graduated from Ferris State University’s Dental Hygiene Program in 1998. In 2012 she completed her Bachelor’s degree in Dental Hygiene through the University of Michigan’s Degree Completion E-Learning Program followed by her Master’s degree in Public Health with a certificate in Health Education and Promotion in 2015 through Benedictine University. Her professional interests include on-line education\, community oral health initiatives\, advocating for older adults\, and program evaluation. Ms. Cullen has presented and published on cannabis and oral health\, opioid prescription trends\, protecting older adults from abuse\, dental hygiene care in alternative settings\, and outcomes of online education program delivery. She is a member of the American Dental Hygienists’ Association\, the American Dental Education Association\, and the American Association of Public Health Dentistry. \n  \n  \nCourse Objectives:  \nDespite advances in legal and social acceptance\, much remains unknown about the impact of cannabis consumption on general and oral health. As oral health is integral to overall health dental providers must become knowledgeable\, not only about the effects of cannabis on the oral cavity but also about how patients use cannabis to manage medical conditions including chronic pain and/or anxiety.
