A Multidiscipline Approach to Head and Neck Cancers
Hagerty Center 715 E Front St, Traverse City , MI, United StatesMichigan Dental Hygienists’ Association and Northland Dental Hygienists’ Association Proudly Announce: A Multidiscipline Approach to Head and Neck Cancers Presented by Henry Ford Hospital Institute Head and Neck Cancer Program Saturday, March 18, 2017 8:30-2:30pm Hagerty Center Great Lakes Campus 715 E. Front St. Traverse City, MI Course Overview: Although cancers of the head and neck region only account for five percent of all cancers reported yearly in the human body, 30 percent of these cancers occur in the oral cavity. That is roughly 22,000 new cases per year if cancers of the lip are not included. Between 6000 and 7000 deaths per year occur because of oral cavity cancer. Cancers of the oral cavity left untreated can have devastating effects on critical life functions for people who have this disease. The oral cavity cancer diagnosis, treatment and rehabilitation is challenging because there are many different types of tissue located in this relatively small area and this area has numerous functions (speech, mastication, swallow, cosmesis). The choice of treatment and rehabilitation must take into account the potential loss of function in this area. A well-coordinated multidisciplinary team is required to provide optimal cancer treatment outcomes and survivorship. The objective of this symposium will be to review all aspects of oral cavity cancer diagnosis, treatments and rehabilitation with presentations from all disciplines involved. Specific attention will be paid to the diagnostic difficulties of oral cavity lesions, cutting edge treatments of challenging cases and how to optimize the rehabilitation of these patients. Objectives: Review basics of head and neck cancer risk, diagnosis and treatment Review multidisciplinary approach to head and neck cancer care Specific attention will be given to oral cancers including oral cavity and oropharynx cancers Review of the HPV cancer related epidemic Define cancer survivorship for head & neck cancer patients, importance of good oral health Review how head and neck cancer treatment can affect oral health Henry Ford Hospital Institute Head and Neck Cancer Program Keynote Speakers: Steven Chang, MD, FACS Director, HFCI Head and Neck Cancer Program Tamer Ghanem, MD, PhD, FACS Director of Division of Head and Neck Surgery Farzan Siddiqui, MD, PhD Director of Head and Neck Radiation Oncology Susan Hill, RD HFCI Dietician Jamie Lindholm, MS, CCC-SLP Head and Neck Speech Language Pathologist Amy William PhD Head and Neck Cancer Psychologist Christian Keller MD Head and Neck Pathologist Jawad Sheqwara, MD Head and Neck Medical Oncologist Program Agenda: 7:30-8:30 Registration and Vendors 8:30-9:00 Dr. Chang Multidisciplinary Care Model 9:00-9:30 Dr. Ghanem Free Flap Reconstruction 9:30-10:00 Dr. Siddiqui HPV Related Oral pharyngeal cancers 10:00-10:20 Susan Hill Oral Cancer Diet 10:20-10:40 Jamie Lindholm Speech and Swallow changes in Oral Cancer 10:40-11:00 Dr. Williams Cognitive Impairment in Oral Cancer Patients 11:00-12:00 Lunch and Vendors (Lunch is included) 12:00-12:30 Dr. Keller Pathology of Oral Cavity and Oropharynx Cancers 12:30-1:00 Dr. Ghanem Trans Oral Robotic Surgery for Oropharyngeal Patients 1:00-1:30 Dr. Siddiqui Radiation Effects in Oral Cavity Cancer 1:30-2:00 Dr. Sheqwara Chemotherapy Effects on Oral Cavity Cancer 2:00-2:30 Dr. Chang Case Discussions, Time for Questions Traverse City Seminar Registration Form (Click link to print registration form)
