SUMMARY:A Multidiscipline Approach to Head and Neck Cancers
DESCRIPTION:Michigan Dental Hygienists’ Association Proudly Announces: \nA Multidiscipline Approach to Head and Neck Cancers \nPresented by the Henry Ford Hospital Institute Head and Neck Cancer Team \n6 hours – 6 CE \nFriday\, October 6\, 2017   8:30am-2:30pm \nBavarian Inn \nFrankenmuth\, MI \n Please click link below for form: \nFrankenmuth2017 \nCourse Overview: \nOral Cavity Cancer \nAlthough cancers of the head and neck region only account for five percent of all cancers reported yearly in the human body\, 30 percent of these cancers occur in the oral cavity. That is roughly 22\,000 new cases per year if cancers of the lip are not included. Between 6000 and 7000 deaths per year occur because of oral cavity cancer. Cancers of the oral cavity left untreated can have devastating effects on critical life functions for people who have this disease. The oral cavity cancer diagnosis\, treatment and rehabilitation is challenging because there are many different types of tissue located in this relatively small area and this area has numerous functions (speech\, mastication\, swallow\, cosmesis). \nThe choice of treatment and rehabilitation must take into account the potential loss of function in this area. A well-coordinated multidisciplinary team is required to provide optimal cancer treatment outcomes and survivorship.  The objective of this symposium will be to review all aspects of oral cavity cancer diagnosis\, treatments and rehabilitation with presentations from all disciplines involved.  Specific attention will be paid to the diagnostic difficulties of oral cavity lesions\, cutting edge treatments of challenging cases and how to optimize the rehabilitation of these patients. \nObjectives: \n\nReview basics of head and neck cancer risk\, diagnosis and treatment\nReview multidisciplinary approach to head and neck cancer care\nSpecific attention will be given to oral cancers including oral cavity and oropharynx cancers\nReview of the HPV cancer related epidemic\nDefine cancer survivorship for head and neck cancer patients and the importance of oral health\nReview how head and neck cancer treatment can affect oral health\n\n  \nKeynote Speakers:   \n  \nSteven Chang\, MD\, FACS                     Head and Neck Surgeon  \nVivian Wu\, MD                                         Head and Neck Surgeon  \nTamer Ghanem\, MD\, PhD\, FACS       Head and Neck Surgeon  \nFarzan Siddiqui\, MD\, PhD                    Head and Neck Radiation Oncology  \nSusan Hill\, MAPS\, RD\, CSO                 Henry Ford Cancer Institute Dietician  \nKathryn Genoa\, MS\, CCC-SLP            Head and Neck Speech/Language Pathologist  \nAmy Williams\, PhD                                Head and Neck Cancer Health Psychologist  \nChristian Keller\, MD                             Head and Neck Pathologist  \nJawad Sheqwara\, MD                           Head and Neck Medical Oncologist  \n  \nProgram Agenda:  \n  \n\n\n\n7:30-8:30 \n \nRegistration and Vendors \n\n\n8:30-9:00               \nDr. Chang \nMultidisciplinary Care Model \n\n\n9:00-9:30               \nDr. Ghanem              \nFree Flap Reconstruction/TORS (advance surgeries) \n\n\n9:30-10:00             \nDr. Wu \nHPV-Related Oropharyngeal cancers \n\n\n10:00-10:30           \nDr. Siddiqui                \nRadiation Effects in Oral Cavity Cancer \n\n\n10:30-11:00           \nDr. Sheqwara               \nChemotherapy Effects on Oral Cavity Cancer \n\n\n11:00-12:00           \nLunch and Vendors \n(lunch provided) \n\n\n12:00-1:00             \nAll \nPanel Discussion:  \nCase Discussions/Tumor Board \n\n\n1:00-1:20           \nSusan Hill                     \nOral Cancer Diet \n\n\n1:20-1:40           \nKathryn Genoa        \nSpeech and Swallow Changes in Oral Cancer                              \n\n\n1:40-2:00           \nDr. Williams            \nPsychosocial Concerns and Cognitive Impairment in Oral Cancer   \n\n\n2:00-2:30   \nDrs. SUMMARY:A Multidiscipline Approach to Head and Neck Cancers
DESCRIPTION:Michigan Dental Hygienists’ Association and Northland Dental Hygienists’ Association\nProudly Announce:\n A Multidiscipline Approach to Head and Neck Cancers Presented by Henry Ford Hospital Institute Head and Neck Cancer Program\n  \nSaturday\, March 18\, 2017   8:30-2:30pm \nHagerty Center Great Lakes Campus \n715 E. Front St. Traverse City\, MI \n  \nCourse Overview: \nAlthough cancers of the head and neck region only account for five percent of all cancers reported yearly in the human body\, 30 percent of these cancers occur in the oral cavity. \nObjectives: \n\nReview basics of head and neck cancer risk\, diagnosis and treatment\nReview multidisciplinary approach to head and neck cancer care\nSpecific attention will be given to oral cancers including oral cavity and oropharynx cancers\nReview of the HPV cancer related epidemic\nDefine cancer survivorship for head & neck cancer patients\, importance of good oral health\nReview how head and neck cancer treatment can affect oral health\n\n  \nHenry Ford Hospital Institute Head and Neck Cancer Program \nKeynote Speakers: \nSteven Chang\, MD\, FACS                         Director\, HFCI Head and Neck Cancer Program \nTamer Ghanem\, MD\, PhD\, FACS          Director of Division of Head and Neck Surgery \nFarzan Siddiqui\, MD\, PhD                      Director of Head and Neck Radiation Oncology \nSusan Hill\, RD                                              HFCI Dietician \nJamie Lindholm\, MS\, CCC-SLP                Head and Neck Speech Language Pathologist \nAmy William PhD                                       Head and Neck Cancer Psychologist \nChristian Keller MD                                   Head and Neck Pathologist \nJawad Sheqwara\, MD                               Head and Neck Medical Oncologist \n  \nProgram Agenda: \n7:30-8:30                                                     Registration and Vendors \n8:30-9:00             Dr. Chang                   Multidisciplinary Care Model \n9:00-9:30             Dr. Ghanem                Free Flap Reconstruction \n9:30-10:00           Dr. Siddiqui                 HPV Related Oral pharyngeal cancers \n10:00-10:20         Susan Hill                    Oral Cancer Diet \n10:20-10:40         Jamie Lindholm       Speech and Swallow changes in Oral Cancer                              \n10:40-11:00         Dr. Williams               Cognitive Impairment in Oral Cancer Patients                                                                     \n11:00-12:00         Lunch and Vendors (Lunch is included) \n12:00-12:30         Dr. Keller                    Pathology of Oral Cavity and Oropharynx Cancers           \n12:30-1:00           Dr. Ghanem               Trans Oral Robotic Surgery for Oropharyngeal Patients \n1:00-1:30             Dr. Siddiqui                Radiation Effects in Oral Cavity Cancer \n1:30-2:00             Dr. Sheqwara           Chemotherapy Effects on Oral Cavity Cancer \n2:00-2:30             Dr. Chang                   Case Discussions\, Time for Questions \nTraverse City Seminar Registration Form (Click link to print registration form)

SUMMARY:Renaissance in Local Anesthesia
DESCRIPTION:Renaissance in Local Anesthesia\npresented by Stanley F Malamed\, DDS \nLocal anesthesia forms the backbone of pain control techniques in contemporary dental practice. The subject of pain control in dentistry has undergone a recent renewal of interest\, a renaissance. In this program Doctor Malamed will present an in-depth discussion of the many aspects of this important area of daily dental practice. A major area of interest has been in the development of new local anesthetics\, such as articaine\, as well as the development; the soon-to-be released local anesthetic nasal mist for maxillary anesthesia; the introduction of a drug to reverse soft tissue anesthesia – phentolamine mesylate and buffered local anesthetics\, producing a more rapid onset\, more comfortable injection and more profound anesthesia. These and other areas of current research into improving pain control will be discussed. \nLocal anesthetics are the safest & most effective drugs in medicine for the prevention & management of pain – when used correctly. \nOutline\n\nIntroduction\nDrugs: Clinical differences\nDrugs: Current research with LA’s\nTechniques: Troubleshooting the “Mandibular Block”\nSummary / Questions & Answers\n\n\n\nSeven hours of CE\nIDS is an ADA CERP approved provider\n\nPlease visit our website to register\, and for complete course details:\nInternationalDentalSeminars.com

SUMMARY:Emergency Medicine in Dentistry by Stanley Malamed
DESCRIPTION:Emergency Medicine in Dentistry\npresented by Stanley F Malamed\, DDS \nLife-threatening emergencies can occur any time\, any where and to any one. Such situations are somewhat more likely to occur within the confines of the dental office due to the increased level of stress which is so often present. In this course Dr. Malamed will discuss the areas which are considered vital to a proper understanding of emergency medicine: prevention\, preparation\, and recognition and management. This will include a discussion of preparation involving the office and staff and includes a thorough review of the office emergency kit (drugs and equipment). Additionally\, it will include the recognition and management of specific emergency situations and includes the management of unconciousness\, respiratory distress\, seizures\, drug-related emergencies\, and chest pain. This course is designed for all members of the dental office staff\, not just the doctor and chairside personnel. Situations discussed here can happen outside of the dental environment as well as in the office. EVERYONE SHOULD BE PREPARED! It is strongly recommended that ALL members of the dental office staff attend this program. \nOutline\n\nIntroduction\nPrevention of medical emergencies\nPreparation for medical emergencies:\nOffice staff\nEmergency drugs and equipment\nGeneral principles- Drug related emergencies:\nAllergy\nChest pain\nRespiratory distress\nSeizures\nAltered consciousness\nUnconsciousness\nSummary/Questions & Answers\n\n\nSeven hours of CE\nIDS is an ADA CERP approved provider\n\nPlease visit our website to register\, and for complete course details:\nInternationalDentalSeminars.com

SUMMARY:MDHA Program at Spirit of Michigan!
DESCRIPTION:Michigan Dental Hygienists’ Association Program\nThe Spirit of Michigan meeting has always been a favorite of mine\, catching up with colleagues\, making new friends\, visiting the exhibits\, learning about the local scene\, and attending valuable seminars.
